The Winnebago Revel is one of the most capable adventure vans on the market, but your lifestyle and travel style can push its stock power system to its limits. Whether you need faster charging, longer off-grid capability, or enough power to run your A/C overnight, RoamRig offers upgrades designed specifically for the Revel. Here’s how to decide which one fits your needs.
1st Generation Revel Upgrades (2018–2020 with AGM Batteries)
For first-generation Revels, RoamRig offers three staged packages that fully renovate the power system. Each option includes Lion Energy lithium batteries with a limited lifetime warranty rated for 3,500 cycles.
- Stage 1
420Ah battery bank
No second alternator
3000W inverter and charger replacing the stock 2000W inverter and charger
Best for casual off-grid trips - Stage 2
420Ah battery bank
Adds a second alternator for much faster charging
Important for realizing full benefits of larger battery banks
Balanced solution for extended off-grid travel - Stage 3
630Ah battery bank
Includes a second alternator
Ideal for heavy users who need more capacity and recharge speed
The second alternator is critical when you have a large battery bank. Without it, you may not be able to recharge fast enough to take full advantage of the system. Think of it like an electric car. A 500 mile range is impressive, but if you can only recharge 100 miles per night, the full capacity becomes unusable. A fast charging option allows you to use the system to its full potential.
The second alternator may affect fuel mileage when it is actively charging. There are too many variables to provide an exact number. When batteries are full, the alternator free spins with no additional drag.
2nd Generation Revel Upgrades (2021–2023 with two factory lithium batteries)
The second generation Revel begins with two 125 to 130Ah lithium batteries. RoamRig upgrades focus on both expanding capacity and correcting factory charging limitations.
- External Regulator Only
Optimizes alternator charging without adding capacity - Third Battery Only
Adds more runtime between charges - Third Battery with External Regulator and Alternator
The sweet spot for most owners
Provides both additional capacity and faster charging
Larger Packages
- Two Battery Upgrade
Approximately 520Ah total
Includes upgraded 3000W inverter and charger
Inverter relocated to the front of the bench seat where it is less exposed to heat - Three Battery Upgrade
Approximately 650Ah total
Same inverter and relocation as above - Four Battery Overhaul
3000W inverter and charger
Larger 250A second alternator with proper external regulator
Can run A/C and other appliances at the same time - Five Battery Upgrade
Maximum Revel power system
Designed for extended off-grid travel without hookups
A credit is issued for each additional factory battery already installed.
It is important to note that the stock Winnebago installed second alternator does not include an external regulator. It functions like a simple on/off switch which is not compatible with lithium charging requirements. RoamRig’s upgrade ensures proper, adjustable charging for longer battery life and reliability.
3rd Generation Revel Upgrades (2024 and newer)
The newest Revel generation allows for modular upgrade paths.
- Alternator Only
Best if your capacity is adequate but you want faster charging while driving - Second Battery Only
Adds runtime without major changes - Full Overhaul
Three 320Ah batteries for a total of 960Ah
3000W inverter
250A alternator
Ultimate setup for running A/C, induction cooking, Starlink, and other high draw appliances
Key System Components (applicable to all systems)
- Inverter and Charger: Kisae 3000W pure sine inverter with 100A DC charger. Easily powers an A/C unit in good condition
- DC-DC and Solar Charging: Kisae 50A. Charges at 50A from alternator or solar, not simultaneously. Solar controller is MPPT with a maximum open circuit of 50V
- Battery Safety: Each battery includes a breaker for protection and isolation
- Monitoring: Victron battery monitor for full system tracking rather than individual batteries
Air Conditioning and Runtime Expectations
As a general rule, you can expect about one hour of A/C runtime for every 100Ah of storage. This estimate assumes worst case conditions, such as running in the heat of the day. With smart usage, shade, and ventilation, runtime can often be extended.
12V A/C units are not recommended for Revel upgrades. They are extremely expensive, require difficult modifications such as cutting a larger roof hole and running new wiring, and in testing have shown very high DC draws of over 100A at 90°F. A quality 120V system paired with the RoamRig setup remains the more effective and reliable choice.
How to Choose the Right Upgrade
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I run high draw appliances like A/C, Starlink, or induction cooking
- Do I park for long stretches or drive daily
- Do I need a simple add on or a full system overhaul
If you rarely drop below 20 percent battery, better charging might be enough. If you are running out of power mid trip, more capacity may be the best solution.
Final Thoughts
RoamRig offers Revel specific upgrades to fit every kind of traveler. From simple charging improvements to complete multi battery overhauls, the right system means more freedom, more comfort, and fewer compromises on the road.
